Eunuch menace in Ahmedabad
After being harassed and traumatized by eunuchs 'extorting' money, a few citizens have approached the police to curb this menace.
On Thursday afternoon, a few eunuchs belonging to Sonia De's gang stormed into a posh locality of Ambawadi area, asking for money from the residents. According to Sunil Dadh, a resident of Anand Mangal-3 at Ambawadi, three eunuchs of the gang barged into his office located on the 10th floor of the building, asking for Rs1,000 from him. Dadh, a chartered accountant by profession, refused to pay them such a huge amount and asked them to settle for Rs100.
Angered by his offer, three eunuchs, namely Pappi De, Saira De and Nafisa De started humiliating Dadh by undressing and cursing him in front of his staff. "They used abusive language and even threatened to ransack my office before leaving. Later, they went to the 9th floor to collect money from Asif Shaikh, who has his fashion studio in office no 902" said Dadh, who also alleged that these eunuchs come every week to collect money.
At Shaikh's studio, the same story was repeated. "I have a 15-member staff. These rowdy eunuchs crossed all limits of decency and harassed me incessantly. They used words which cannot be uttered by civilized people," alleged Shaikh, who states that these eunuchs have accumulated massive money by such illegal extortions from the common man. Apart from Shaikh and Dadh, a few other office owners of the building, including one Yogen Parekh and Animesh too were harassed.
When these victims approached the Ellisbridge police to lodge a compliant, the police officials declined to interfere. "Now we have given an application to them, after which, police called all the eunuchs to the police station," said Shaikh.
Police officials took a written assurance from all the three eunuchs asking them not go to Anand Mangal-3 building again. "Eunuchs gave in writing that they will not come to our building again. But we want them to stop such illegal activities in the whole city," said Dadh, who heaved a huge sigh of relief.
